GAMSAT Universities Guide
This is the definitive guide to all universities which require GAMSAT.
On this page we'll cover Australian, UK, Irish and other international universities.
Please note that while the majority of university courses which require GAMSAT as an entrance requirement are for medicine, some universities also require GAMSAT for entrance to dentistry, veterinary science, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, physiotherapy and physician associate courses.
These courses will also be covered in the individual university entries below.
For more information on universities which currently require GAMSAT you can also visit the official ACER website also but it only gives a list of the universities.
On this page we provide much more detailed information than the ACER website which you can find here -
https://gamsat.acer.org/university-admission/universities
Australian Universities
There are currently 12 universities in Australia which require applicants to sit GAMSAT.
These are;
The Australian National University
Deakin University
Flinders University
Griffith University
Macquarie University
University of Melbourne
University of Notre Dame – Fremantle
University of Notre Dame – Sydney
University of Queensland
University of Sydney
University of Western Australia
University of Wollongong
Please note that Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland now use the alternative formula for calculating Gamsat score –
(1 x Section I + 1 x Section II + 1 x Section III) / 3
So section 3 only accounts for one third of the overall score and not 50% as with the standard formula.
For further details about applying and individual university entry requirements please refer to the official GEMSAS web page where you can download a detailed PDF guide to individual university entrance requirements, how your GPA is calculated and other information on entrance requirements -
Please note that Flinders and Sydney are not part of the GEMSAS system and you need to apply directly to the university concerned.
ACER will communicate your GAMSAT result directly to GEMSAS which will then issue offers of interviews to successful candidates also taking into account GPA and other entry requirements as set by the individual universities.
The timetable of events for applicants to Australian universities is as follows:

1-31 May university applications via GEMSAS (or direct to the university in the case of USYD, Flinders & Monash.

Application to UK universities is made via UCAS, however please note that the process for applying to the universities and applying to sit GAMSAT are two different processes.
University applications are made via UCAS at https://www.ucas.com/

Other International Universities
The above information will cover 99.9% of people taking the GAMSAT test and applying to university.
However for the sake of completeness we'll also make mention of some international institutions which also make use of GAMSAT as part of their selection process.
These are often of interest to people who for whatever reason have been unsuccessful in gaining entry to medical or dental school via the regular route in their home country but do not want to give up on their career choice.
In many countries the number of applicants for courses such as medicine can be in the hundreds for just one university place.
The inevitable result of this is that very many extremely highly qualified people, who actually meet the academic standards, are unable to gain entry.
In other cases, the hurdle may be the GAMSAT test itself. These foreign institutions usually ask for considerably lower Gamsat scores than universities in the UK or Australia for example so entry may be easier.
It is also worth pointing out that all these programs are taught in English.
Furthermore graduates of universities based in the European Union will automatically have their qualification recognized in all other EU countries.
For programs based outside the EU there isn't usually any problem in getting the qualification recognized either although there may be more paperwork involved.
