Des O'Neill PDF Free Download
One of the questions I see asked most often on Gamsat student forums or in Facebook groups is - Where can I get the Des O'Neill PDF Free Download?
So let's look at what exactly the Des O'Neill PDF's are, what's in them, why everyone is so desperate for them and FINALLY if they are actually worth spending a lot of time on.
Oh and I'll also tell you about some more up to date alternatives further down.
Once upon a time, long, long ago a man called Des O'Neill ran a Gamsat prep company in a faraway land called Australia.
When he started his company he was the only person running a Gamsat preparation course at that time and so obviously his course became very popular.
Well there wasn't really any alternative.
It was that or do it all on your own.
As part of his course Des had a series of books.
Most of these were science text books dressed up for Gamsat (and which by the way are universally regarded as deadly dull and full of unnecessary detail).
Then there are another two books which are the ones everyone wants to get their hands on as a PDF download - preferably free.
These are the Des O'Neill Red Series Book which is a big question bank of Gamsat style questions for section 1 Reasoning in the Humanities.
The other one is the Green Series Book which is another question bank for section 3, the science section.
These two books the red and the green question bank books are what most people really want.
So why don't people just buy them if they want them so much?
Well, the Des O'Neill company went out of business many years ago.
Some people say he retired. Others say that as more and more Gamsat companies began springing up he just wasn't making enough money anymore.
Whatever the reason, the books just aren't for sale anymore.
BUT....
As soon as the company disappeared a market in second hand copies of his books sprung up...
Which quickly turned into unscrupulous people just scanning the books and selling them as a PDF download.
If you're lucky you'll find people giving them away for free, but the vast majority are being sold as poorly scanned PDFs on places like Ebay or Gumtree.
But are they really worth getting?
Look, if you can get them for free or very cheap on Ebay, maybe, why not? It's some extra question practice if you want it.
Although do be aware that as the company stopped so long ago they haven't been updated in quite a while and most people agree that the questions are a little dated now.
A lot of the questions require a calculator to solve them and calculators aren't even allowed in the test anymore.
So I wouldn't make them your ONLY source of question practice if you want the most realistic questions representative of the test as it is today.
But are there any more up to date alternatives if you can't find them free or you don't want to deal with some dodgy Ebay seller selling pirated materials?
Yes there is and one of them is also completely free.
