How Much Does GAMSAT Cost?

GAMSAT or the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test is held twice a year in March and September. The cost to sit the test in either sitting is -

Australia: $515

UK: £265

Ireland: €341

However if you miss the registration deadline which is end of January for the March sitting and end of July for the September sitting then in addition to the above fees you have to pay a LATE REGISTRATION FEE which is currently -

Australia: $100

UK: £60

Ireland: €70

The late registration period is only available for ten days after the normal registration period closes.

What's included in the cost?

Included in the cost of sitting the Gamsat is of course actually sitting the test plus a Practice Questions e-book with some sample questions equivalent to about half a full length Gamsat test.

This e-book contains the answers but only has fully worked solutions to some of the questions.

You can also buy additional practice tests at additional cost. There are 4 other e-books available to purchase.

These are the Sample Questions which like the Practice Questions is equivalent to about half a full length test and costs Australia:AUD$27 UK: £17 Ireland: €19 plus three full length practice tests which cost Australia: AUD$45 UK: £28 Ireland: €32 each.

None of the full length practice tests have worked solutions, only an answer key.

It is VERY STRONGLY recommended to buy all of these as part of your preparation as a MINIMUM as they are the most realistic practice available for the test.

This brings the total cost of sitting Gamsat to -

Australia:AUD$677

UK: £366

Ireland: €456

Additional Costs

However after taking into account the above you'll also need to budget for some other UNAVOIDABLE COSTS.

These are:

1. Textbooks

ACER who run Gamsat recommend buying first year degree level textbooks for biology and chemistry and A level (year 12) text books for physics.

Nowadays there are many free science resources online where you can study much of the necessary science, see this list I compiled for example -

GAMSAT Free Online Resources

However most people still like to have at least one physical textbook for each subject.

2. Travel & Possibly Accomodation

Finally you'll have to get the test centre which depending where you live could be more or less expensive.

Currently there are 12 test centres in Australia (for the March sitting, for September there are only 4). These are Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Dubbo, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Townsville and Wollongong.

In Ireland there are 3 centres for March (only one in September) these are Cork Dublin and Limerick.

In the UK there are 6 centres available for the September sitting (only 2 in March) which are Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London and Sheffield.

Inevitably some people will have to travel a long distance to get to the test and in some cases an overnight stay in a hotel the day before will be necessary or at least strongly advisable since not many people will want to do a whole day of intensive testing for such an important test after a two or three hour trip.

Please also note that places in each test centre are limited so try not to leave it until the last minute to register or you may not get a place in your closest centre.
